Linkagery for 1/16

  • American Digest as a disturbing and thought-provoking essay on why democracy must not be our goal in Iraq, but instead victory.

  • The commanding officer of 2/12 Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division, is Lt. Col. Tim Ryan. In Iraq, he essayed "Aiding and Abetting the Enemy: the Media in Iraq." His picture is here.

  • Scott Forbes is pessimistic about whether the Jan. 30 elections in Iraq will play a factor in suppressing terrorism there. I fear he's probably right.

  • I posted last June about Gunner Palace, a documentary about the 2d Battalion, 3d Field Artillery Regiment, in Baghdad. That is the artillery battalion in which I was a battery commander 20 years ago. Gunner Palace will be released in theaters here beginning March 4. It will be well worth the time and money spent to see it.

  • I got several emails wondering why I don't write more about evolution and intelligent design matters. I think the answer is probably because there are so many ideologies on both sides that the whole issue is a swamp I'd rather not wade through.

However, Andrew Clem wrote about a federal judge's ruling to yank "advisory" stickers from science books teaching about evolution. While it seems that Andrew isn't very clear about what "theory" means, it also seems the judge was a bit whacko in the rationale for his ruling.

  • Mike Weatherford has another installment of photo interpretations of the tsunami-striken areas.
This is the worst I've seen in 40 years of working with aerial imagery.

The website for our stuff is http://tsunamihelp.blogspot.com - that's the main page. My analysis is at
http://www.citystar.com/~mweather/imagery.htm, or on a second dedicated
server available from the Ground Zero page.
  • Zac Northup says the contrary to assertions, the National Guard is not tapped out.

  • Diplomad reports on ultimate "cool."
