Kerry's rotten luck with the news cycle
President Bush went this morning to campaign in Pennsylvania and John Kerry stepped up his appearances as well. Ordinarily, both candidates would get the majority of news coverage during the day.

Ordinarily.

But this day is not ordinary. The fierce battle with terrorists in Russia, resulting in dozens of deaths, coupled with the looming disaster moving slowly toward Florida, would have filled the news hole pretty full by themselves.

But today former President Bill Clinton was admitted for heart exams and will have heart surgery in a few days.

Kerry's counterattack to Bush's speech is virtually squeezed out of news coverage because of these 1-2-3 demands for coverage. Bush's campaigning is shunted aside, too, but it's worse for Kerry because the RNC is the last political news fresh in the public's mind, having ended only last night.
