In Iraq, the true liberators offed a fascist dictator. The Iraqi people face a difficult struggle for freedom, but instead of supporting them with muscle and money, the snide and reactionary frumps on the hard left sip Chardonnay and nip brie then viscerally loath that vulgar cowboy liberator, George W. Bush.Indeed. While we’re on that topic, read "Goodbye, All That: How Left Idiocies Drove Me to Flee," by self-described "anti-materialist liberal Democrat" Ron Rosenbaum, first published Oct. 14, 2002. He found he could no longer stand with the Left as he did before Sept. 11, 2001. Hence, he bade them farewell from his political universe: Goodbye to the deluded and pathetic sophistry of postmodernists of the Left, who believe their unreadable, jargon-clotted theory-sophistry somehow helps liberate the wretched of the earth. If they really believe in serving the cause of liberation, why don’t they quit their evil-capitalist-subsidized jobs and go teach literacy in a Third World starved for the insights of Foucault?Anger and malice seems to be all the Left has these days. We are quite familiar with what they are against, but are they actually for anything? It would seem not. ________________ Endnote: Like many others, I distinguish between American liberals and the American Left. How they seem to me to be differentiated is that liberals love America and more importantly, they love the very idea of America. But the Left loathes both. Liberals, as I see them: Dan Rather, Chris Matthews, Michael Totten, Jeff Jarvis, for example. Leftists, as I see them: Noam Chomsky, for example.
